The match which was played in front of 2500 fans saw Timo Werner score his first goal for the club after a long range passing masterclass from Hakim Ziyech.
The Moroccan shone throughout the encounter and was unfortunate to pick up a twist in his knee and was taken off. Brighton equalised late on in the game after substitute Ampadu brought down a player inside the eighteen yard box. Here are what we saw from the encounter at the Annex stadium….
1. Hakim Ziyech Left foot is Magic
As many would have predicted, the winger was at his best yesterday. He was most effective at the first 10 minutes of the encounter and tailed off as the game wore on. One highlight of his game thought is how he set to thr first goal of the match. He is indeed a master passer of the ball. Premier league be warned.
2. Timo Werner Shows A Glimpse Of What He Can Do
He was Only on the pitch for 4 mins before he found the back of the net. A sublime finish into the back of the net after Odoi miscalculated his header. A master poacher he is indeed and Chelsea fans should expect more of those tidy finishes as the season commences.
3. Chilwell And Pulisic Missed
Chelsea’s left wing has minimal impact in the game. Hudson Odoi still has a lot to learn and Pulisic is so much better than the English youngster. Alonso was his usual slow self yesterday and Brighton targeted his wing for thr majority of the contest. The earlier Pulisic and Chilwell can play the better for Chelsea.
4. Kai Harvetz Is The Final Piece Of Lampard’s Puzzle.
Chelsea midfield shown little creativity yesterday aside from the debutant Hakim Ziyech. Kovacic and Kante were sublime but Loftus Cheek found it difficult to get going. Cheek still needs game time and if Chellsea signs Kai, he would definitely be thrown into the starting XI. Mount is also another player who can light things up in midfield but was in the squad as a result of him being quarantined.
