Ondo 2020 Election: Deputy Governor To Defects to Another Party, Meets Mimiko

The embattled Deputy Governor of Ondo state, Hon. Agboola Ajayi is considering leaving the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in order to contest the Ondo 2020 governorship election. 

Hon. Ajayi weeks ago dumped the All Progressives Congress, APC for the People Democratic Party, PDP but lost the party’s governorship ticket in the primaries to Barrister Eyitayo Jegede.

But according to sources in Ondo State, Ajayi is said to be considering dumping the PDP, and in order to achieve this, he met with a former governor of the state, Olusegun Mimiko.

His meeting with Mimiko, who is the leader and founder of the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP is geared towards securing the parry’s ticket following tussle among two aspirants over the governorship ticket.

According to a source in the ZLP, Hon. Ajayi paid a visit to the residence of Mimiko during the week.

It was gathered that Dr. Mimiko was said to have promised to meet with his associates and followers to take a stand on Agboola Ajayi’s request.

According to the source, “we were all surprised to see the Deputy governor Agboola Ajayi at Dr. Mimiko’s residence yesterday night. He told our leader that he would like to contest the October 10, election under ZLP and assured him that he has enough resources to win the election.

The Deputy governor is said to be banking on winning the election if he picks his running mate from Owo local government area of state, where his mother hails from and the hometown of Akeredolu, in order to divide the votes from the town.

But when contacted, the Media Adviser to the Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi, Allen Sowore said his boss was still consulting with stakeholders. He said his boss would announce the next line of action next week.
