New goalkeeper reaches agreement to join Chelsea on 5 year contract

Rennes president Nicolas Holveck has admitted talks are underway with Chelsea for goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, but they are not close to an agreement.

The Blues have been heavily linked with a move for the French goalkeeper this summer as they continue their big rebuild.

After sealing big moves for the likes of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech, there is a belief that Frank Lampard and co are now keen to find a replacement for current number one Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The Spanish goalkeeper struggled once again last season, with a series of disappointing performances seeing him replaced by veteran Willy Caballero.

They’ve been linked with several goalkeepers since then, with Mendy named among those they could look to target after he kept 13 clean sheets in 33 games last season, conceding just 31 goals in the process.

Their president has now confirmed Chelsea’s interest, and that the goalkeeper wants the move.
