Chelsea have been very active in the transfer market thus far. After completing deals for Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech even before the window began, the Blues are still looking to reinforce various positions in the squad, as Frank Lampard looks to turn this side into genuine title contenders. But while they are targeting big name players, they still have eyes on talented youngsters. That was the case as they beat several rivals to the signing of young Dutch defender Xavier Mbuyamba from Barcelona on a few transfer. The Catalans could not give the 18-year old the playing time he wanted, and as a result he opted to leave, with Chelsea – whom he had trialed for before – winning the race for his signature .
He is set to join their Development squad initially, with hopes to break into the first team. And now, he has been pictured with the Blues’ kit for the first time as he signed the dotted lines.
He posted on his Instagram after signing with Chelsea: “Very happy to announce that I’m a Blue now. Ready to work hard and make the club proud.”
Let’s see if Mbuyamba, nicknamed the ‘new Van Dijk’, can break into the Chelsea first team in the coming seasons.
