The Blues are said to have made Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz as their prime target this summer but appeared to have identified Coutinho as the alternative.
Kai’s value is in the region of £90m and the German outfits are not willing to sell unless the release clause is met. They are ready to take instalments to cover up the transfer fee.

However, Coutinho can be available for a loan of around £9m a year with the option of buy at the end of the season. Arsenal and Spurs have been linked with the Brazilian.
