#munche halftime:Manchester United 1-0 Chelsea live updates

Ole  Solskjaer will be hoping to get his first full season as United manager off to a winning start as he comes up against an old rival Frank Lampard who took over as Chelsea manager this summer following the departure of Maurizio Sarri.

Solskjaer handed United debuts to Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka who both make their first Premier League starts for the club. But there was no room in the starting XI for fellow new signing Daniel James who had to settle for a place on the bench.

Nemanja Matic, who has been poor in pre-season, was dropped to the bench in favour of Andreas Pereira who starts alongside Pogba and McTominay.

Radford goal Manchester United take the lead

13′ 0-0

Chelsea have had 74% of possession in the opening exchanges. United just can’t find their rhythm.

Pereira yet to justify his selection

Pereira is not justifying his existence as the 10. United have a playmaker who did well against Chelsea last season and Juan Mata is on the bench. You have to wonder why Solskjaer, having appeared to settle on a four-pronged attack in pre-season has thrown a spanner in the works by entrusting Pereira in such a key role. It’s sink or swim stuff there and he is in need of a lifejacket.

Phelan instructing Rashford

Chelsea have started the brighter out of the two sides.

9′ 0-0

Chelsea playing the better football at the moment. Another dangerous ball from the right from Azpilicueta flashed across the front of United’s goal and luckily Abraham couldn’t reach it.

United yet to get going

Chelsea must have warmed up for at least 10 minutes longer than United and it’s showing.

United – bar Wan-Bissaka – are off the pace and rusty, a shadow of the intensity they injected into their play during pre-season and it says it all Harry Maguire headers are eliciting loud cheers. Rashford has been particularly ropey.

Then, all of a sudden, Martial gets a gift like that. It’s been an absorbing start.

7′ – 0-0

First chance for United

Anthony Martial fires at Kepa as United get their first opening of the game.

Sharp start from the visitors

A bright start here from Chelsea who look sharper than United and are utilising their own high press.

Wan-Bissaka the star performer in a red shirt, but only because he’s had so much defending to do.

Tactical surprise

Pereira as the 10 is a tactical surprise from Solskjaer, though Pereira might tell you that has always been his preferred position.

He got forward enough in pre-season to be familiar with it and United are sticking to the 4-2-3-1 formation.

Avram Glazer, undeterred by a harmless hashtag, is here. More importantly, so are more than 70,000 United fans.

If the Glazers are ever going to be forced out, fans will have to vote with their feet.

3′ – 0-0

Off the post

An early warning from Chelsea as Tammy Abraham strikes the post from distance.

Already an improvement

Already a huge cheer as Aaron Wan-Bisska wins the ball back on the right and calmly clears up to Jesse Lingard in front of him.

Two minutes into his full debut and he’s already shown the dynamism which was lacking last season.

2′ – 0-0

Good work from Wan-Bissaka

That will be a weight off Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s shoulders as he comfortably wins his first battle with Emerson.

The Chelsea full-back had advanced forward, but he wasn’t getting past Wan-Bissaka.

1′ – 0-0

Off we go!

Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are the focus of attention pre-match as United get the game underway!
